Principal's Corner

Dear Harbor School Families,

*This message was adapted from www.aasl.org and the Transforming Learning initiative - from the American Association of School Librarians.

April is School Library Month (www.ala.org/aasl/slm). What a great opportunity to engage in a dialogue with your school about how to support shared goals. Celebrate the many ways libraries build curiosity, responsibility, encourage exploration, inspire creativity, and champion deeper understanding for all learners.

In November, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) released its National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries. The AASL Standards framework delineates the competencies and growth mindset that all learners must develop to become successful in college, career, and life.

The attached “Because Everyone Is a Learner” infographic highlights education beliefs and foundations that educators value. All of the ideals in these statements are embodied in and actualized through the National School Library Standards. Why are these important to you?

Jason Foster
